
The Homeland Security Advisory System provides information about the current terrorist threat to federal, state and local governments and the public. This system’s warnings come in the form of five graduated, color-coded threat conditions that increase with the threat risk. As each condition rises, federal agencies implement increasingly protective measures to safeguard potential targets.
Low condition (Green) Employees should receive preparedness training; employers should have a process to assess vulnerabilities and take precautions to mitigate them. Contact your local law enforcement agency for more information. Keep employees aware of the current threat level.
Guarded condition (Blue) Review and update emergency response procedures and coordinate preparedness efforts with your local law enforcement agency and surrounding community. Ensure internal communications are effective. Keep employees aware of the current threat level.
Elevated condition (Yellow) Continue all precautions from lower threat levels, monitor information sources for warnings, update and test call down lists for emergency response teams and key employees, review employee training on security measures and conduct communication tests. Keep employees aware of the current threat level.
High condition (Orange) In addition to protective measures taken in lower levels, businesses should coordinate security measures and efforts with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies when holding public activities. Consider alternate activities or even cancellation and prepare to execute contingency plans such as moving to an alternate location.
