Sales tax holiday coming in May The Virginia Hurricane Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday is scheduled for May 25-31. The week allows Virginians to purchase certain preparedness supplies such as batteries, radios, bottled water, first aid kits and generators tax free.
Tornado hits Lee County An EF1 tornado with 86-110 mph winds struck the Ewing area of Lee County in Southwest Virginia. The tornado destroyed one home and damaged six others. There were no injuries. It was the only known tornado to affect Virginia during the March 2 outbreak that saw reports of 128 tornadoes in 11 states.
