Fire Corps

On any given day in Virginia, fire departments are called upon to respond to brush fires, structure fires, airplane crashes, bomb threats, floods, hazardous material spills, water or ice rescues, vehicle crashes/fires, technological disasters or terrorism threats and incidents.

When you choose to volunteer with your local fire department through the Fire Corps program, you will make a real difference for Virginia by providing critical non-emergency support. Some possible volunteer activities include:

• Accounting/bookkeeping
• Installing smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms
• Conducting home safety and child safety seat checks
• Public/media relations
• Writing grants
• Computer support
• Performing administrative tasks, such as keeping minutes or filing reports.

Fire service volunteers can receive state firefighter training free of charge through the Virginia Department of Fire Programs. To find out more, visit their Web site.
