Volunteer Rescue Squads

Virginia's Emergency Medical Services system was built on volunteer support. Volunteer EMS providers are highly trained professionals armed with the latest knowledge and equipment. These volunteers help save hundreds of lives each year.

If you are interested in EMS, you can volunteer to be a certified Emergency Medical Technician, or you can volunteer as support staff in positions such as bookkeeper, clerical, groundskeeper, computer technician, building maintenance, mechanic or fundraiser.

There are also opportunities to serve your community during disasters with a Virginia Health and Emergency Response Team. These teams bring specialized emergency response members and equipment to communities to work during emergency situations. Teams include Health and Medical Coordination Teams, EMS Disaster Task Forces, Critical Incident Stress Management Strike Teams, Physician Strike Teams and Massage Therapy Strike Teams.
