IN TAZEWELL COUNTY TAZEWELL, VA. -- As the federal-state disaster recovery effort continues to reach out to flood survivors with unmet needs, a mobile disaster recovery center (DRC) will begin making rounds later this week in three hard-hit Tazewell County communities. Disaster assistance experts at the mobile center provide disaster information and registration assistance to applicants in outlying areas that do not have easy access to the Tazewell Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) located at 607 Market Street in North Tazewell. All DRC's are staffed by state and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recovery specialists who will provide information on disaster programs including: grants to pay for temporary housing needs, minimal home repairs and other serious disaster-related expenses. Residents and business owners also may be eligible for low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to help cover residential and business losses not fully compensated by insurance. Visitors to the centers are encouraged to first register for assistance by calling 1-800-462-9029. Individuals with speech or hearing impairments who use special keyboard equipment (TTY) should call toll-free 1-800-462-7585. County residents who have already registered for federal-state disaster assistance are not required to visit a DRC regarding their application. FEMA inspectors will contact all applicants requesting disaster-housing assistance individually, a few days after registering, to arrange for an appointment to view the damage. Schedule of stops:
