OCTOBER 10 IS LAST DAY TO APPLY

TAZEWELL, VA. -- Wednesday, October 10 is the last day for residents, homeowners or business owners to file for disaster assistance programs authorized by the July 12 Presidential disaster declaration for the following Virginia counties: Bath, Buchanan, Dickenson, Lee, Russell, Scott, Smyth, Tazewell, Washington and Wise.

Virginia State Coordinating Officer, Gordon Barwell, is encouraging those who sustained damage to apply by calling the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) toll-free registration number at 1-800-462-9029 (TTY 1-800-462-7585).

Acting Federal Coordinating Officer, Jerry Dobinson, said: "Applicants may qualify for assistance under several federal and state programs such as disaster housing assistance, grants to meet disaster-related needs and U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) low-interest long-term loans.

Dobinson added: "We want to make sure we reach all those in need. If for some reason you have hesitated to apply, call us now. Our phone lines are open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m."

After the October 10 deadline, citizens can call the FEMA Helpline at 1-800-525-0321 (TTY 1-800-462-7585) with questions about their application status or the assistance process.
