Richmond, VA - Homeowners and business owners will have the chance to get answers to their federal flood assistance questions in person during an open forum in Northumberland County, one of 16 localities eligible for low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration. Topics will include home repair, how to prevent damage, loans, mitigation grants, flood insurance, SBA loans and preparing for future floods.
"This is a great opportunity for those who saw their homes, businesses or property damaged to get their answers straight from the experts," said Michael Cline, state coordinator for VDEM. "I encourage anyone who lives or owns a business in the affected area to attend the meeting."
Representatives from the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation and the Virginia Department Emergency Management, as well as the SBA will be available to answer questions.
The SBA has made low-interest loans available to homeowners, renters and businesses in the counties of Gloucester and Northumberland and the cities of Hampton, Newport News and Richmond. Loans are also available in adjacent localities: the city of Poquoson and counties of Chesterfield, Henrico, James City, King and Queen, Lancaster, Mathews, Middlesex, Richmond, Westmoreland and York.
The forum will start at 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006 at the Northumberland Courts Building, 39 Judicial Place, Heathsville, VA 22473.
