Early Warning Siren System Test Set
For North Anna Power Station May 21

RICHMOND, VA -- State and local officials will test the early warning siren system around the North Anna Power Station Wednesday, May 21, at approximately 11:10 a.m. In Caroline, Hanover, Louisa and Spotsylvania counties, 68 sirens located within a 10-mile radius of the station will sound a three-minute tone.

The siren system alerts the public to tune in to their local radio or television Emergency Alert System (EAS) station for information. A list of area EAS stations is located in the yellow pages of the phone directory in the affected areas, as well as in the annual North Anna Power Station emergency information calendar mailed to households in the region.

Quarterly full-scale siren tests consisting of a single three-minute tone take place on the third Wednesday of February, May, August and November. The next test of the North Anna siren system will be Wednesday, August 20, 2008.

The alerting system signifying an actual emergency at North Anna Power Station consists of four separate, three-minute tones, each separated by a one-minute silent interval. Total elapsed time for actual emergency notification is 15 minutes.

The Virginia Department of Emergency Management, Dominion and the localities where the sirens are located will participate in the May 21 test.

In the North Anna area, the EAS radio and television stations are:
