Earthquakes can and do occur in Virginia. Their intensity may be small compared to West Coast states, but Virginians still need to be aware of this hazard and prepare their families.
However, earthquakes are not the only type of geologic hazard that affect Virginia. Landslides, sinkholes, shoreline erosion and frost heave all occur in Virginia. This section of the site provides information about these geologic hazards and how to respond to them.
