Governor's Proclamation By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:
WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia is vulnerable to various types of severe winter weather including extremely cold temperatures, ice storms, snowstorms, and freezing rain; and
WHEREAS, severe winter weather can cause injury and death through hypothermia, heart attack, stroke, traffic accidents and other related causes; and
WHEREAS, severe winter weather can interrupt electrical and communication services to homes, schools and businesses; and
WHEREAS, the loss of life and property during the winter months can be greatly reduced if Virginians take appropriate measures before, during and after experiencing severe winter weather; and
WHEREAS, partners in the Ready Virginia initiative join together to provide winter safety information and preparedness procedures to citizens throughout the Commonwealth;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Timothy M. Kaine, do hereby recognize December 2-8, 2007, as WINTER PREPAREDNESS WEEK in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
