NEW - VDEM’s Learning Management System, known as the Knowledge Center (KC), is a Web-based program that provides up-to-date training information directly from the user’s desktop. This important training tool manages the administration of classroom and on-line training which ultimately improves the delivery of training to all users.

To request an Emergency Management class for your organization, please submit a written request at least 60 days in advance with a commitment to provide an agreed-upon minimum number of participants, provide an adequate training facility, allow other students to enroll and furnish any refreshments desired. Send written requests to EMTraining@vdem.virginia.gov.

Special Training Opportunities
- Weapons of Mass Destruction Training:
Sponsored and hosted by the Center For Domestic Preparedness in Anniston, AL, this training track consists of two separate courses: WMD EMS and WMD Hands-On Training. The track is designed for responders in EMS, including those trained as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) and paramedics. Hospital staff, including physicians and nurses, will also benefit from this training. Responders must be a state-licensed paramedic, EMT, or emergency care provider (emergency room physician or nurse). Session One January 4-8, 2010
This week-long program brings together several series of Emergency Management and Incident Command System courses for presentation in a central location within the region. This format allows individuals to participate in one to three training courses during the week, while minimizing travel and related costs for their agencies. It is intended specifically for students from Region VII, northern Virginia. Scheduled training programs include instruction from local and state experts as well as national programs presented through the Department of Homeland Security. Three curriculum tracks are available. Training at FEMA's Emergency Management Institute
- Emergency Management Accreditation Program (EMAP) Accreditation/Assessment Manager Orientation (E-123): March 15-16 and Aug 30-31, 2010. EMAP's Accreditation/Assessment Manager Orientation is an opportunity for emergency management personnel from State, tribal, territorial, county, and city emergency management programs to learn about the Emergency Management Accreditation Program (EMAP), EMAP standards, and preparing their programs for assessment and accreditation. The orientation session provides information about EMAP standards and procedures and compiling compliance documentation for an EMAP assessment. - Emergency Management Accreditation Program (EMAP) Assessor Training (E-124): March 18-19 and Sept 2-3, 2010. This training will prepare experienced emergency managers to serve as on-site assessors as part of the accreditation process. Training is open to experienced emergency managers who meet the assessor qualifications found in the training announcement (see link below). The training will cover EMAP standards, assessment procedures, and assessor responsibilities, and will conclude with an assessor examination. - EMI GRAM
- Online Course: National Incident Management System Resource Management (IS703) - Replaces Resource Management G276 - 16 hours - APS
This interactive computer-based course provides the principles, tools, processes, and systems used in NIMS that incident managers need for timely and effective resource management during an incident. This course will supersede G-276. For those who have completed G-276 still may claim credit for it as an elective, or IS-703 will count.
