This course is for campus police, public safety, fire service, EMS, emergency management, security officers, faculty or other personnel employed by any public or private college or university, or from any state/local agency or non-governmental organization, who may be called upon to train or lead campus CERT teams, or teach CERT as a college course. Campus CERT Train-the-Trainer Course is designed to build on the standard CERT curriculum adopted by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security; this three-day course includes information and guidelines for teaching and implementing CERT in the unique context of the campus community. Organizational topics to be briefly reviewed include: program planning, funding sources, recruiting, training, supervision, team member retention and legal concerns. Topics to be covered from the CERT course will include: disaster preparedness, fire suppression, first aid, light search and rescue, disaster psychology, and terrorism awareness. There will be a variety of hands-on practical exercises.
Graduates of Campus or Teen CERT train-the-trainer courses are NOT qualified to teach the basic classroom CERT curriculum.
